Brian's POV

I thought it would be nice to get out of the house with Jade, just the three of us. We were having a pretty good time to. Sampling some different foods and walking along the market streets. But that was before I ran into my parents. The same parents who wouldn’t help me when I was pregnant with Jade, the ones that refused custody when I asked; instead letting her go into Foster Care. I haven’t spoken to them since. In some ways I hated them more then I ever hated Dom for what happened back then. They are my parents, their love was supposed to be unconditional.

My mom’s eyes are huge as she stares at my belly. When she looks at my bare left hand, I haven’t been able to wear my wedding band since I was five and a half months pregnant, her face hardens and she gives me this disapproving look. One that says she’s embarrassed and ashamed because she assumes I’m pregnant yet again and still unwed. Part of me really wants to rub Dom in their face and the other part just wants to keep my mouth shut and hope they go away before Dom gets back from the bathroom. Jade starts wiggling in my arms, trying to get down.

“What is it sweetie?”

“Papa!” She shouts and I follow her gaze to see Dom striding towards us with a big smile, so much for hoping that I wouldn’t have to introduce everyone. I set Jade down and she’s off like a shot throwing herself at her Papa.

I look over at my parents, my mother looks extremely upset and my father looks uncomfortable. He keeps looking around like someone might see him standing next to me. Neither one of them has said anything to me yet.

“Hey babe” Dom says as he walks up to me and gives me a kiss “you look a little pale, how you feeling?”

How do I answer that? I was fine up until about 5 minutes ago when I laid eyes on my parents.

I give a weak chuckle “Dom I’d like you to meet my parents, Timothy and Catherine O’Conner.” I wave in their general vicinity. “Mom, Dad… I’d like you to meet my husband Dominic Toretto.”

Suddenly my mom gives a dazzling smile. “Nice to meet you Dominic.”

Then my father is shaking his hand. “Yes, very nice to meet you. So glad Brian found someone willing to raise someone else’s kid but I imagine you’re happy to be having your own.”

I give Dom a sickly smile. Dom is frowning and is obviously not at all pleased with the comment.

“I am Jade’s father, Mr. O’Conner.” Dom growled

“Of course, of course, I didn’t mean it like that. You’re the only fathers she’s ever known...”

“Uh dad, Dom is Jade’s biological father.” I jump in before my father can stuff anymore foot in his mouth.

My parents stare at us for a couple seconds before they ask how long we’ve been married. That just pisses me off, I know if I had been married when I had Jade they would have been there every step of the way, but oh no they didn’t want any of their friends to know that their son was an unwed parent, didn’t want the country club scandal. I just want them to go away. I move closer to Dom and he wraps an arm around me.

“It was nice to meet you Mr. O’Conner, Mrs. O’Conner, but Brian and I have to leave. He’s going to be late for a doctor’s appointment.”

“Of course, do let us know when the little one is born won’t you. We’ll send a gift.”

God that disgusts me, send a gift. They won’t acknowledge Jade as anything other then ‘his kid’, not their granddaughter, not Jade, just ‘his kid’. But they’ll send this child a gift all because I’m married this time around.

“Don’t Bother” I hiss at them before turning away. “I want to leave Dom.” Dom raises his eyebrows in my direction. “Now, Dom, I want to leave right now!” He looks back at my parents then at me again and shifts Jade so she’s sitting on his shoulders, places his arm around me again and tugs me close before leading me off. Leaving my parents standing there without another word.
